They Have To Know You Care

As a coach, I deal with this reality every day. I’m hard on the players I coach. I expect a lot from them. When I feel like I’m not getting their best effort, practice usually isn’t very fun for them.

Because of that, I often make it a point to pull players aside individually and explain why I’m on them. I want them to understand that the reason I’m pushing them is because I believe in them. I know how good they can be. I tell them all the time, if I’m on you, it’s because I care.
